How to get mermaid hair
Here are a few tips and practices to grow your hair like a mermaid.
- Often clients think less is more when it comes to aftercare products. Typically what I see is not enough protection. You need to cocktail some products, depending on the climate you live in, to protect your ends from breaking off. In the dry climate we live in here in Reno, I always recommend some sort of leave in spray-on detangler like this one. (to prevent breakage while combing out) as well as an oil such as Surface’s Curls Serum to keep moisture at the ends of the hair and again to prevent dry ends that will eventually break and split off.
- I highly recommend that clients working toward their dream of mermaid hair do it while they sleep, with a loose braid. Sleeping with your hair braided will keep the ends of the hair moister the more protected than having all those ends being tugged and pulled on all night while you toss and turn. And if they have the hair type that can tolerate a little more oil on the ends at night before braiding it all the better. This typically is recommended for someone with courser, dryer hair rather than thin fine hair that may end up looking greasy by morning
- Use products that are designed to rebuild bond and structure in the hair. There has been an explosion on the market in the professional hair care world in bonding technology. I love this line created by Schwarzkopf Professional BC BONUCURE FIBER FORCE. And Sarah swears by Loreal’s Professional ProFiber Line. Both are designed specifically to rebuild broken bonds in the hair and strengthen the hair from the inside out. We have seen remarkable results with these lines.
- Stimulate hair growth with supplements. Biotin is top of the list for hair and nail growth. I like this one from Costco. And collagen pills are the latest trend in skin and hair care. My clients are seeing good results from ones such as these at GNC.Thanks for stopping by the blog at Haven!
